New Season, New Studio!

It is gorgeous today. This doesn't mean I'm not thinking about people who have been struck by Hurricane Helene or who are under threat from Hurricane Milton, or people who are facing unimaginable threats like war or things that I can imagine like anxiety, all of you are on my mind. I'm also just trying to enjoy the beauty of the fall weather from the window of my new studio space at Idylwood Studios.

I am now the Teaching Artist in Residence at Idylwood studios, sharing a space with Pamela Huffman, the Curating Artist in Residence. Across the hall are artists Casey Wait and Maureen Minard. I'm so grateful to Casey Thompson and the congregation at Idylwood Presbyterian Church who have transformed part of the church into our little art community. I will be leading workshops and classes from this space in the new year and as we get ready for those opportunities, there will also be some free individual classes for children and adults as we plan for the creative community we want to grow at Idylwood Studios.

There has been so much going on! I was a participant in Salon Arlington on September 21 at Village Sweet Bakery. It was a lovely evening talking with other artists, collectors and art enthusiasts about my work. I also opened my former studio for the Arlington Visual Arts Studio Tour on September 22. It was such fun to see old friends and new come through and talk about art. Up in Gaithersburg, Maryland, my chair called Panic! was a part of Pull Up a Chair 2.0 curated by Sandra Davis. That show explored issues related to mental health and wellness and we had a lovely crowd at the artist reception on September 15.

If you want to see my work up now, some of my work is featured in Best in Class: MoCA Arlington Artist Instructors at MoCA Arlington in the Jenkins Community Gallery. Best in Class runs through January 26, 2025. I'm also teaching an adult class at MoCA Arlington beginning on October 18 through December 6 called Mixed Media Expressions. It will take place on Friday mornings from 10am to 12noon. And, finally, if a class is too much, I'm offering a one day workshop at MoCA on October 19 from 12:30-2:30pm on Sculptural Collage. I am very excited about this one and I hope to see you there!
