It has been a while since I've posted a blog post or sent out a newsletter, for some reason I go through waves of administrative productivity (like right now!) and waves of creative productivity (actually, this is also like right now!) - but if there is ever something that I need to let drop, it is website maintenance and communications. Trying not to feel guilty about it.
Anyway, I've been working on a new series that I'm calling Personal Stratigraphies 2.0. As I've said before, I love the idea of stratigraphy, which in geological terms is the layers of the earth. I like the idea of taking a word that refers to something that veeeery slowly changes over time and connecting it to my own personal thoughts, feelings, emotions as they relate to my day to day existence. There has been a lot going on in the world recently, and I mean A. LOT., and collage, drawing, painting, MAKING, are the things that get my through it all.
I'll set up a little gallery under my MIXED MEDIA tab with the 6 pieces I have completed for this collection so far. I'm also thinking of organizing a studio sale of some older work in the next couple of months. A wonderful friend (thank you Kara!!) is hosting me for a mini residency in her studio during the month of July and I hope, among many other things, to get some photographs taken of work from previous years. You may have noticed that I took the shop down, it was consuming too much time and I think this studio sale format may be a better way to get my work out into the world that doesn't completely take over my life.
Finally, my friend Connie Keith and I have two collaborative pieces going up at Falls Church Arts Gallery in the show Collab: Conversations in Art. This show opens tomorrow and is filled with super cool work, all created by two artists in collaboration. I'm still managing FCA's Instagram account so you can follow along there or at the FCA website to see lots of images from the show.
